Powell Artist, Suzanne Gilchrest, flutist, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe and Cuba. She has been noted for her “highly artistic standards” (Vorarlberger Nachrichten, Bregenz, Austria), her “beautiful sound” (Anzeiger der Stadt Kloten, Switzerland) and her “polished and brilliant playing” (Dolomiten Zeitung, Bolzano, Italy). Primarily a performer of chamber music, Suzanne is a member of the award-winning flute, viola, and cello trio Eight Strings & a Whistle.
The Trio has three releases on Ravello Records and its more recent performances include the premiere of Jorge Amado’s Concertino for flute, viola and cello and string orchestra with the United Nations Symphony Orchestra in Merkin Hall, New York City. Suzanne has also toured and recorded for Prospect Classics to wide critical acclaim as a member of the Browning-Gilchrest flute and guitar duo. Suzanne is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and holds a master's degree in Chamber Music Performance from NYU. Currently, Suzanne teaches flute and chamber music at NYU Steinhardt, the United Nations International School, and serves as a clinician for the Pedagogics Project initiative sponsored by Buffet Crampon.
Karen Lerner is a collaborative pianist and music educator. Since receiving her MM from the Yale School of Music, she has been active as a chamber musician, and loves nothing more than working with others on new and contemporary music. She premiered the music of Aaron Kernis, Carolyn Yarnell and Sidney Corbett among others. She has taught piano at the Westport School of Music, Wesleyan University, CoPA at The New School, and has been a member of the music faculty at the United Nations International School since 1994 teaching private piano and choral music.
